Things 4 Good Candle Fundraiser this weekend!

This weekend is the 3rd Annual Things 4 Good Candle Fundraiser!

Happy Halloween! ๐ŸŽƒ Hoping you have many kids ringing your doorbells for candy. ๐Ÿ‘ป Despite the cold temps and snow! ๐Ÿฅถ

Please stop by the fundraiser on:

Saturday, Nov 4th: 10 am to 4 pm
Sunday, Nov 5th: 12 pm to 4 pm

Thingelstad Home
5115 Knox Ave South
Minneapolis, MN 55419

This year we are featuring eight scents to choose from.

Winter Wonderland: "Itโ€™s like hugging a pine tree without the sap โ€” pure holiday forest air, no axe required." (most popular)

Apple of My Eye: "Smells like you just walked into grandma's kitchen โ€” if grandma was a Michelin-starred chef obsessed with apple pie."

Tea Time: "Spice up your life (and your living room) with a scent that's less holiday tea party, more seasonal soirรฉe."

Oh My Darling: "Get whisked away to a tropical island where the goji berries greet you and the driftwood sends you a postcard."

True North: "A scent that makes even Santa consider relocating his workshop to the Alps."

Pumpkin Pie: "Itโ€™s Thanksgiving at your in-laws, but without the awkward questions โ€” just the sweet and spicy aroma of pumpkin pie."

Old Fashioned: "Smells like your favorite speakeasy decided to moonlight as a candlemaker โ€” sweet, rich, and socially refined."

Plain Jane: "For when you're wick-ed tired of scents and just want to burn it straight." (no scent!)

As you know, all of the proceeds of the Candle Fundraiser go to the four different non-profits that we have each picked. These are the organizations we are supporting this year.

  • Oceanites supported by Tyler
Oceanites is a non-profit that helps the entire arctic peninsula, though penguins are their first priority. They are trying to help with the warming arctic.
  • Food Recovery Network supported by Mazie
Food Recovery Network has spread to over 200 colleges in the United States after it was started by 5 college students who realized perfectly good cafeteria food was being thrown away and had the genius idea to actually do something about it! Volunteers at colleges (of which I am one!) pack up extras from their cafeteria and send them to community food shelves to feed hungry people in their communities. FRN directly refunnels food to those who need it instead of the waste yard.
  • Heart to Care Tanzania supported by Tammy
Heart to Care was founded by a woman from the Twin Cities. I read an article about her in the StarTrib a few years ago. She was on a trip to Tanzania several years ago and had a chance encounter with a young man that lead her to partner with him and others to start a school in a small Tanzanian village. She works tirelessly to improve the school, expand the school and make sure that all involved have everything they need.
  • American Prairie supported by Jamie
I grew up on the prairie and have always had a fascination with Bison and the strength of these ecosystems. I love what this organization is doing to help in maintaining and growing a thriving prairie ecosystem.

A couple of final questions before the weekendโ€ฆ

Some folks have asked if we will re-use empty candle vessels from previous years? Absolutely we will. If you have used candle vessels from a previous Things 4 Good Candle Fundraiser please bring it and we will give it new life as a candle next year!

A note about the initial burn of your wooden wick candle, it is best to let it burn long enough for the entire surface of the wax to become liquid. If you light it and put it out quickly early on the wick can struggle to stay lit. After it has been used a couple times you don't need to worry about this.

And, the 2023 Candle Fundraiser POAP is ready for you to claim when you are part of the event. Don't forget to get your claim sheet and mint your commemorative token.

Hope to see you this weekend! ๐Ÿค
